This Guy Asked For It

(CNN) -- A professor who compared some victims of the al Qaeda attack on the World Trade Center to Nazis was fired Tuesday by the University of Colorado's Board of Regents.

Ward Churchill raised hackles with a 2002 essay that argued the September 11, 2001, attacks were a justified reaction to U.S. policies in the Middle East, and said the hijackers who killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania had "the courage of their convictions."

But the regents said Churchill's firing was unrelated to the essay, which went largely unnoticed for three years. Instead, it cited "deliberate and repeated research misconduct." A university investigation had found cases of plagiarism and falsification in previous papers by Churchill -- allegations that surfaced after his essay became widely known.

"The Board of Regents affirms that its decisions in this matter have been made solely on the basis of the allegations of research misconduct against Professor Churchill and have not been influenced or motivated by extrinsic considerations, Professor Churchill's political and social views or a desire to punish Professor Churchill for expression of his political or social views," the university announced.

CU interim Chancellor Phil DiStefano recommended Churchill's dismissal in June 2006 after a university committee completed its investigation.

Churchill's essay drew little notice until a 1,800-student college in upstate New York invited him to take part in a 2005 forum on prisons and Native American rights. The invitation was rescinded after criticism from then-New York Gov. George Pataki, then-Colorado Gov. Bill Owens and hundreds of relatives of those killed in the attacks created a media firestorm.

The piece had called some of those who died in the World Trade Center "little Eichmanns" -- a reference to Adolf Eichmann, the Gestapo officer who was one of the chief architects of the Holocaust -- arguing they were "a technocratic corps at the very heart of America's global financial empire."

Churchill, who had tenure, stepped down from his post as head of CU's ethnic studies department amid the flap but remained on staff. He had no immediate reaction to Tuesday's decision. E-mail to

It has become fashionable to refer to people as Nazis in an effort to make them seem evil or wicked. This man went a little too far with it. I do not particularly care for the way some want to compare others who do not deserve the comparsion to a German regime that killed millions of people. To say that about victims of terrorism is way out there and hurtful to their families.

We have freedom of speech in this country. A Supreme Court Justice once said that yes, you have freedom of speech, but you do not have the right to cry Fire in a crowded place and cause a riot. I do not think you have the right to say off the wall things that will hurt others as well. Many in America do not agree with the foreign policy of their country, but they have enough sense to know that our leaders have bungled in that area , not normal everyday people who happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and paid for it to the highest degree.

The university is saying that Churchill got fired due to research misconduct. That is probably the offical reason. The college did not want to find themselves in the middle of a freedom of speech debate. I think his remarks made him some enemies that poured over his research until they found something amiss. I have said many times that if you go to fishing for something, nine times out of ten you will find it.

My Week So Far

00:52 Jul 18 2007
Times Read: 665

Work is going okay. My second week of training has been interesting. I got a bad headache during the last break of the day yesterday, but three pain pills later and the head was all better. I still felt sleepy. Going from night shift to days is taking some time for this girl to adjust. The next two weeks I work from 12 pm until 9 pm.

Mikhail and Nthaniel's car broke down yesterday afternoon. Since they were my ride to and from work, I almost thought I would be back at Allergan. Turns out a girl I work with will give me a ride. I feel blessed there. I just hope our schedules are similar once training is over. Or I will be finding another way around. I hate how Mikhail and Nthaniel do not have a car. Hopefully, a relative will be able to help them soon with that problem.

I made my first two call today. Actually, I took calls at work. People call us wanting our product. One call was a transfer. The other call was someone who had been sent the wrong wireless card for their notebook. That call took forever and a day. The guy needed the other card and had the wrong one in front of him. It was hell finding the right one on the online catalog and I thought this fellow is going to get impatient. Luckily, I had a mentor working with me. It was actually his call and his sale. We finally got the right one out to him. He even got a seventy-five discount because he had a coupon. That made the new one cheaper than the one originally sent him. Usually, it is the other way around.

My roommate is sick. I mean sick. She can keep nothing down but liquids and she is running a high fever. Her face is red. She is attempting to get a way to the hospital. Her daughter was in the ER last night. Neither of them can eat. I will pretty bad when I am able to eat in a few minutes.

"Big Girls Don't Cry"

Da Da Da Da

The smell of your skin lingers on me now

You're probably on your flight back to your home town

I need some shelter of my own protection baby

To be with myself and center, clarity

Peace, Serenity

[CHORUS:]

I hope you know, I hope you know

That this has nothing to do with you

It's personal, myself and I

We've got some straightenin' out to do

And I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket

But I've got to get a move on with my life

It's time to be a big girl now

And big girls don't cry

Don't cry

Don't cry

Don't cry

The path that I'm walking

I must go alone

I must take the baby steps 'til I'm full grown, full grown

Fairytales don't always have a happy ending, do they?

And I foresee the dark ahead if I stay

Like the little school mate in the school yard

We'll play jacks and uno cards

I'll be your best friend and you'll be my Valentine

Yes you can hold my hand if you want to

'Cause I want to hold yours too

We'll be playmates and lovers and share our secret worlds

But it's time for me to go home

It's getting late, dark outside

I need to be with myself and center, clarity

Peace, Serenity

New Job

02:50 Jul 11 2007
Times Read: 688

I started my new job with Dell Computers yesterday. I am a temp still with the chance to be full-time after three months. Nthaniel may be working there soon. I hope so. His other job did not work out. They laid-off a bunch of people today.

Two girls that were at my old job work at my new one. They tried to get me to say that my trainer (who is fine kinda reminds me of Frank Sinatra, but he is not SInatra. He is not my type and I doubt it if I am his. Mr man at my old job still has my attention. Someone may take it, but not after knowing someone for two days. ) was fine. I politely said he is not my type. I quess they wanted something to go tell him. Yeah right. I do not need sexual harassment charges my first week. These girls kept up alot of drama on my old job. Do they really think I am going to bother with them in drama at this one? I hope not. They would have to be retarded to think so.

Concert For Diana

01:01 Jul 06 2007
Times Read: 710

As I mentioned in an earlier entry, I watched the concert that Prince William and Prince Harry put on to honor their mother's, Princess Diana, forty-sixth birthday. It is hard to believe that the lady would be fifty in four years if she lived. Of course, she was ten years older than me. Boy, I am beginning to realize that I have aged.

Sometimes the public forgets that public figures do not belong to us. They belong to the people that knew them personally. I got up early one morning to watch Diana marry her prince. I was not even in high school then. I remember when she gave birth to the heir and what was later referred to as the spare. ( I always hated those terms used in reference to her sons. I really hated it after I had my son. She gave these boys names. I doubt if anyone would name anyone heir or spare. Of course, there may be a nutcase somewhere that will. ) I watched her marriage to Charles fall apart and how her public image was tarnished by her willingness to be honest and the tabloids willingness to report it all and then some that may not have been the truth. I listened in horror to what Charles was supposed to have said to Camilla in what should have been a private phone call. I never knew a man to say he wanted to be a tampon. That was original. I watched as people questioned how long Charles would stay with Diana and how those same people questioned who Harry's father was. I would just shake my head and feel badly that Diana had to go through this. Some would say she choose her role. But who in their right mind would choose to have every aspect of their private life raked over the coals and be public fodder for those who could not be bothered with focusing on their own lives? No-one.

Lost in the shuffle was the fact that by all accounts Diana was one of the best mothers on the planet. After what Susan Smith did to her children for the love of a man who did not want her and the problems that lead to Andera Yates drowning her children, one would think we would be more impressed with the good parenting skills of a famous figure than the drama that goes on in everyone's life whether they are famous or not. Nobody wanted to focus too long on what Diana did for the innocent victims of land mines or that she was a patron of a ballet company in England. You may not be a fan of the ballet, but the dancers have to practice for years and have a dedication for their job that many do not have to have. One Valentine's Day, Diana sent a heart-shaped cake to the dancers of the company she supported. Diana supported children charities. She did try to use her celebrity for good. Getting paid to attend parties was not her claim to fame. She did not disrobe for a magazine to become famous. She did not get on a reality show to make a name for herself. It is apparent that the fame bothered her. She wanted her children to have the most normal childhood possible in the circumstances they found themselves in.

I also wanted to shed a tear ten years ago in June when she died in a tunnel in Paris. It looked like she may have finally found a man that was not carrying a torch for another woman and who wanted to be with her. We will never know for sure. The person who knew the most what that man meant to her died that day. I just hope that in the afterlife Diana found the peace that eluded her in her adult life. I hope she got to see the concert on her birthday and how much people still remembered and loved her. I hope she knows that for eternity , she will be beautiful both inside and out.

Snow Patrol chasing Cars

06:33 Jul 03 2007
Times Read: 716

We'll do it all, everything, on our own.

We don't need anything, or anyone.

If I lay here, if I just lay here

Would you lie with me, and just forget the world.

I don't quite know how to say how I feel

Those three words, are said too much, they're not enough.

If I lay here, if I just lay here

Would you lie with me, and just forget the world.

Forget what we're told, before we get too old

Show me a garden that's bursting into life.

Let's waste time, chasing cars, around our heads.

I need your grace to remind me, to find my own.

If I lay here, if I just lay here

Would you lie with me, and just forget the world.

Forget what we're told, before we get too old

Show me a garden that's bursting into life.

All that I am, all that I ever was

Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see

I don't know where, confused about how as well

just know that these things will never change for us at all.

If I lay here, if I just lay here

Would you lie with me, and just forget the world

(1, 2 ... 1, 2, 3, 4)

shed a tear 'cause i'm missing you

i'm still alright to smile

girl, i think about you every day now

was a time when i wasn't sure

but you set my mind at ease

there is no doubt you're in my heart now

said, woman, take it slow

it'll work itself out fine

all we need is just a little patience

said, sugar, make it slow

and we'll come together fine

all we need is just a little patience (patience)

ooh, ooh, yeah

sit here on the stairs

'cause i'd rather be alone

if i can't have you right now, i'll wait here

sometimes, i get so tense

but i can't speed up the time

but you know, love, there's one more thing to consider

said, woman take it slow

things will be just fine

you and i'll just use a little patience

said, sugar, take the time

'cause the lights are shining bright

you and i've got what it takes to make it

we won't fake it, oh, never break it

'cause i can't take it

... little patience, mmm yeah, ooh yeah

need a little patience, yeah

just a little patience, yeah

some more patience, yeah

i've been walking these streets at night

just trying to get it right (need some patience, yeah)

it's hard to see with so many around

you know i don't like being stuck in a crowd (could use some patience, yeah)

and the streets don't change but baby the name

i ain't got time for the game

'cause I need you (patience, yeah)

yeah, yeah well i need you

oh, i need you (take some patience)

whoa, I need you (just a little patience is all we need)

ooh, this time

July So Far

23:42 Jul 01 2007
Times Read: 727

Well, on the first day of July this year , I can honestly say that Texas is hot. The electric bills are going to go skyhigh. I hope everyone I know can keep their lights on. I do not want anyone to be suffering in this heat.

I watched the ConcertForDiana with my roommate. I will write an entry about that later. I was glad to see all the performers. It looked like Prince William and Prince Harry were enjoying themselves. I am sure their mother would be proud of the men her sons are becoming.

I did five loads of laundry today. I carried them up and down the stairs. I think I must be in pretty good shape for a 36 year old.

Mikhail did not take his medication for two days. And he wondered why he was feeling bad. Jack and Tiffany got on his case, so he took them.
